Oh how I love the fall season. For most this means cool air, pretty leaves, and sweater weather but for us in Texas this means continued heat, turkey legs and Big TEX! Every year I make an annual trip to the state fair and as I’ve gotten older the highlight of that day is all of the amazing (and not so amazing) fried foods to dig in to. This year I decided to take one for the team and try some of 2016’s newest attractions so you can decide if it’s worth your coins or not. Keep reading for the mouthwatering descriptions of Deep Fried Bacon Wrapped Tot Dogs, Doritos Bacon Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, and Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Descriptions for all of the newest state fair treats can be found here, at BigTex.com
Deep Fried Bacon Wrapped Tot Dogs
Appearance: The presentation was a mess, but oh-my! It was everything I love. A hotdog wrapped in bacon with chilly cheese and jalapeno ranch topped with tater tots.
Taste: This combination was amazing. One thing I would definitely do without is the tots. I’m not such a fan of that. Maybe fries as a topper would have been better?
Overall: I definitely recommend that you try this. Overall I give this dish a 3.5 out 5. The taste was great but it was a little difficult to eat at the fair. This guarantees a mess, but is so worth it.
Doritos Bacon Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
Appearance: I’m immediately intrigued by the appearance. The Doritos look extremely crunchy! It also comes with a special marinara and ranch sauce.
Taste: This was a little too savory for me. The cheese stick is wrapped in bacon and coated in crunchy Doritos. I’m overwhelmed by the cheese flavor in and out of the cheese stick. Although I didn’t care too much for the dish, the special ranch sauce made a great compliment.
Overall: For this one I would say “why not?” Go ahead and try it. If you happen to leave the fair without making it to this stand, you didn’t miss anything spectacular. Overall this is a 3 out of 5.
Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
Appearance: This ice cream looks pretty regular. Nothing too special here.
Taste: OMG, I love it. It took me back to my childhood of making Dr. Pepper floats. The mini chocolate chips just melt in your mouth.
Overall: Don’t leave the fair without trying this! I loved it. If someone could point me in the direction of where to purchase this after the fair let me know. Overall, five out of five!
