Facebook vs. Snapchat

Facebook wants you to snap, filter, and send. Sound familiar?

Facebook and Snapchat are the two top most used apps in the U.S. according to App Annie; they are completely dominating today’s social media. To stay in the competition, Facebook has recently unveiled its latest “Snapchat-like features,” like a new photo and video effects feature.

There are many effects that you can choose through by swiping the screen and when you “snap” your image or video, you can choose who to send it to, or just post it for everyone to see, like a “story.” Facebook is also creating a new inbox within its app where these photos and video messages can be viewed. Conversations stay live as long as you continue talking. You’ll have on chance to replay and respond within 24 hours before it locks, similarly like Snapchat.

The company has released a number of similar Snapchat features in recent months, like the live masks that are Snapchat-like selfie filters for live video. Their goal is to promote and persuade consumers to share more photos and videos on their platform.


However, Facebook isn’t the only social media app struggling and trying to stay alive, due to Snapchat’s increase of activity. Twitter hasn’t had an increase of consumers or a significant impact in recent years. As for Tumblr, it’s safe to say whether it will be able to keep up, unlike Vine. Unfortunately, Vine has died, sue to the huge decrease of usage form the lack of active users. Vine was once popular, but it began to lose momentum and usage. Then, soon after it couldn’t keep up with other social media outlets.

Facebook has used and copied Snapchat feature, like its filters and video features to be able to stay in the competition with Snapchat. The overall strategy isn’t fairly original, but it’s their sad attempt of keeping or gaining consumers for their platform.
