SEO, what is it good for?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is arguably one of the greatest technological advancements in today’s virtual world. We live in a global society that is driven by technology and the media. It isn’t just about our personal media usage, it’s our business media usage too, and that’s where SEO comes in. In this day and age, it seems as though it is almost impossible to be as successful as possible without making use of SEO in some way.

SEO is the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine. This is beneficial to all business owners, small or large, because it brings customers to you. All SEO is, is essentially a traffic cop, and what this traffic cop does is direct business to you, avoiding other obstacles in the process. Those other obstacles would be your competitors or other sites that the traffic might be directed to instead of yours. SEO makes it so that your brand becomes highly visible. If a search engine can’t find your site, you miss out on that sale because people just can’t find you. SEO is unique in that it produces targeted traffic. What that means is that people are directed to you because they are looking for exactly what you have to offer.

You can optimize your site yourself, but it takes a lot of time and a lot of dedication. This is something that a lot of people just don’t have. That’s where optimization companies come in. They can be affordable, but they can also become quite costly, depending on the size of your business and how much work you need done. In my opinion, it is generally a good idea to work with an optimization company in the beginning. The reason is that optimizing yourself for the web can be extremely overwhelming if you don’t have experience. There are companies out there that can help you. They can either manage your account for you or teach you how to do it yourself. Depending on the person you are, one will work better for you than the other.

The number one thing that search engines aim to provide to their users is relevancy. They try to put the most relevant results into a searcher’s search engine results page (SERP). For example, if you own a pizza restaurant, you want your website and, or your information to pop up first on someone’s SERP page. If someone searches something like “pizza places near me,” you want your website to be shown first, because if that happens they are more likely to pay a visit to your store. The only way to make that happen is to optimize yourself.

SEO can seem incredibly overwhelming in the beginning. But with a little time and practice it will become almost second nature. SEO is undoubtedly essential in today’s media marketing world, but success is possible. The best way to be successful is to market yourself, digitally, to the right audience, and that’s what SEO is for.
